Lamy is a German owned company formed by Josef Lamy, who was a sales rep for The Parker Pen Company and based in Germany, He founded the business by purchasing the Orthos pen company in 1930. They were a pioneer in the use of moulded synthetic plastics in manufacturing their pens. Lamy are currently being run by Manfred Lamy, Josef Lamy's son.
Lamy's pens have a distinctly functional feel. Like other pen manufacturers, each Lamy product has a descriptive yet artistic name that gives a real feel of the product. For example, the Scribble is a mechanical pencil. Many of the designs in their product range have won numerous awards and many designs, such as the design of the 2000 and the Safari, have been used continuously since their inception. For example, the 2000 fountain pen was originally released in 1966 yet it is still in production today. There are, however, a number of product variants such as multisystem pens and mechanical pencils, all with the 2000 design.
