Mont Blanc Voltaire Review
The Mont Blanc Voltaire is not a cheap pen, you can see that as soon as you see the cap which immediately gains attention. Imagine this sticking out of your jacket pocket, an immediate sign of affluence. But what about the rest of the pen? It's a very straightforward design made of Mont Blanc's usual black precious resin. Going back to the cap, it also has a Vermeil ring with an additional ring above the piston.
This is a very light pen, being very neutral with its balance. The engraving on the bottom ring and cap top is beautifully done with the main design of the cap also made of the wonderful Vermeil. Also built into this pen is the ink window so you can see how much ink you have left.
It is fair to say that this pen is not seen to be one of the most desirable Writers Edition pens, however even though there were 20,000 units produced it is unusual to find many for sale. I would say this means the owners are more than happy with their pen and do not feel the need to sell them.
I bought the Mont Blanc Voltaire with a bold nib and it really shows in the writing. It's a very wide nib giving little feedback as it is very wet and smooth in writing. Fortunately it uses a piston which takes a good amount of ink. As a writing instrument it is not very practical in everyday use, however I see it as more of a collector's pen which I will not use day to day.
