My Pocket Friend

Obviously i'm not talking about a tiny rodent or secret leprechaun. Rather my friend of 20 years, my Mont Blanc Meisterstuck pen. Originally purchased for status, I delighted at showing off my new Mont Blanc, relished the attention it gave me. But over time my friend got relegated to a display case, as bad as consigning a Ferrari Dino to a showpiece and never feeling the thrill of driving it.

Fortunately, in the last few months, I have begun to use it for it's proper purpose again, using it as my sole writing instrument. I am an accountant by trade, so in years gone by my Mont Blanc was used extensively. However, in this age of computers, my need for writing has diminished. I have now corrected this, using my Mont Blanc friend daily for taking notes in meetings, writing in my daily journal and even the lowly task of crossing items from my shopping list.

I’ve always had a fondness for quality writing instruments. I have now started looking at adding to my Mont Blanc pen collection (if you can call one pen a collection). Yes, these are expensive pens. If I remember correctly I paid around $100 for my Meisterstuck nearly 20 years ago. These days $500 seems to be the going rate. These prices reflect the quality of the pens, for example the 23.5k gold plated nibs and details.

But back to my friend of 20 years. My pen is a silent reminder of times gone by. Where have those 20 years gone? What has happened in that time? My Mont Blanc friend is a reminder of just how precious the present moment is. It reminds me that time passes by so quickly, that life is for this moment. Thank you my friend.
