Mont Blanc George Bernard Shaw Pen
Mont Blanc has just recently released their latest addition to the Mont Blanc Writers Editions. This Limited Edition series of pens has commemorated famous figures of literature each year since 1992, including Agatha Christie, Ernest Hemingway and Oscar Wilde. Last years pen, celebrating William Faulkner, had a barrel of black-brown precious resin and a platinum-plated upper body.
The Mont Blanc Writers Edition fountain pen for 2008 pays tribute to George Bernard Shaw, the Nobel Prize winning Irish author. Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1856, Shaw spent most of his adult life in England. He is the only person in history to have been awarded both the Nobel Prize for Literature, in 1925, and an Oscar in 1938. The Oscar was for his work on the film Pygmalion.
George Bernard Shaw wanted to refuse his Nobel Prize, owing to his dislike of public honors. However, at his wife’s request he accepted it, as she considered it a tribute to Ireland.
The George Bernard Shaw Mont Blanc pen features rings of dark green marble lacquer that progressively narrow towards the cap. As with the majority of Mont Blanc fountain pens, the nib is 18K platinum-plated gold, engraved with a flower. This flower is to symbolize Eliza Doolittle, the flower girl from Shaw’s best-known work, Pygmalion.
The Mont Blanc Limited Writers Edition George Bernard Shaw fountain pen is now available. Mont Blanc are producing 16,000 fountain pens and 18,000 ballpoint pens. They will also produce 4,000 sets which will come accessorized with a Mont Blanc mechanical pencil.
